Poems on the Book of Daniel by Rex H. Henderson

Faith in the Fire

Shadrach, Meshach, and Obednego
Were caught between the king’s decree
And their faith in the living God.
Is the king God, or an appointee?

The greatest test of the Christian faith
Comes when we are being forced
To worship the no-God, rather than
The living God whom we endorse.

They remembered, You shall have
No other gods before me…I…am a
Jealous God…showing love to those
Who love me and keep my commandments.

The God we serve is able to save us. He will
Rescue us from your hand, O king.
They knew the scriptures and refused
To bow down. God had forbidden it.

They were willing to pay any price.
Many fail because they will not pay
The price of lost popularity, and
Persecution. They choose to betray.

But here are many young people
Who would rather die than give up
Their faith. They are the ones who
Make a difference. Join them.
