Poems on the Book of Daniel by Rex H. Henderson

 With Unbowed Heads

Furious was Nebuchadnezzar
Because Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego would not obey him
So the furnace was super heated.

The men who threw them into the
Fiery furnace were killed by the
Flames, but the Hebrews came through
Without a smell of smoke.

Peering, Nebudchadnezzar saw them
Walking unbound and unharmed.
To his amazement he saw the fourth
Person looking like one of the gods.

That person was Jesus Christ in
Preincarnate form. We sing a hymn:
When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My Grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply.

The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
The dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

Therefore, in the Lord, let us be brave,
Standing with unbowed heads and
Rigid backbones before golden statues
Of a godless, materialistic culture.
