Poems on the Book of Daniel by Rex H. Henderson

The Writing on the Wall

At the height of the crazed party
The depth of sin reached its zenith.
God stepped in with the final verdict.
MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.

The wise “know nothing gang” was called
And for the third time they were
Baffled with out the slightest idea
About the interpretation.

Daniel, the man of God, gave the
Interpretation: MENE, MENE meant
Number, number “His number is up.”
Tekel meant weighed and wanted.

UPHARSIN Thy kindom is divided
Between the Medes and Persians.
That night Darius the Mede overthrew
Babylon and Belshazzar was killed.

This is an example of God’s great
Judgments in human history and
A sharp warning to all who place
Themselves above the Almighty God.
