Poems on the Book of Daniel by Rex H. Henderson

 The Attack on Daniel

His jealous accusers found no fault
In Daniel’s life or character.
They did find that Daniel prayed
To his God and not to the king.

So they resorted to a stratagem.
With flattering suggestions they
Approached the king. Pass a law
That no one could pray except to Darius.

The law passed that a violator would
Be thrown into the lion’s den.
Darius was putting himself in the
Place of God. I am sovereign.

Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar
Both played the part of God, and
Learned that putting self in God’s
Place is not tolerated.

Back in 1981 our society wanted
To play God in the matter of the life
Of the unborn. With furious hostility
They stood against obedience to God.
