Poems on the Book of Daniel by Rex H. Henderson

 Daniel’s Deep Prayer

What a man of prayer who knew
God and man, and tried to bring
The two together. We need more
Prayer warriors like Daniel.

In his prayer he confesses the
Sins of his people and for himself,
Because the judgment of God
Has come upon Israel.

Sin always brings judgment. So
He pleads for God’s mercy. There
Is no other way we can approach
God; only as sinners seeking him.

We’ve sinned, we have not listened,
Covered with shame, we have sinned
Against you, we have rebelled, we’ve
Disobeyed the Lord our God.

We do wrong. We do not make requests
Of you because we are righteous, But
Because of your great mercy. All have
Sinned and come short of God’s glory.

Daniel prays, O Lord listen! O Lord
Forgive! O Lord hear and act! Your
City and your people bear your name.
What a man of prayer! What a God!
