Poems on the Book of Daniel by Rex H. Henderson

 History Fulfilled

The prophecies before us have
Already come to pass. The Persian,
The Greek and the Roman empires
Are matters of historical ruin.

Here are visions of corrupt leader
Of empires who came to power,
But were crushed and another rises
To power as the world leader.

From the Greek Empire rose a cruel
King, Antiochus Epiphanes
Wicked and contemptible who
Advanced his career by deceit.

Invaded Egypt, but he was met
By the Roman General Popilius
Who challenged Antiochus and
He turned back in humiliation.

In anger he abolished temple worship
In Jerusalem. He desecrated the great
Altar of offerings by offering swine’s
Flesh up on it. The Jews revolted,

And the Maccabees came to power.
The prophecies came true because
The God of the Bible is true. The
Bible is a unique revelation.
