The Angel’s Last Words
As for you, go your way to the end.
In 2 peter 3:10-11 But the day of the Lord
will come like a Thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the
elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in
it will be laid bare. What kind of people ought you to be? You ought
to live holy and godly as you look forward to the day of the Lord.
Be prepared. You keep on becoming
prepared are the words of Jesus Luke 12:40.
Expectation. Paul said believers are
not to sleep as unbelievers, but rather be watchful and levelheaded
as they anticipate the Lord’s return (1 Thessalonians 5:6-8).
Patience. You constantly have need
of patience in order that when you have done the will of God you may
inherit the promise, for y et a little time the one who comes will
come and will not delay.
Joy. The thought of the Lord’s return
should be at all times. An occasion of rejoicing for the Christian
(1 Peter 4:12-13).
Holy living. The greatest need of our
day is that of genuine piety. Be sober with reference to prayer
(Matthew 7:7-11). Above everything else be fervent in love
(1 Peter 4:8).
Peace with the brethren. In 2 Peter
3:14 Christians are enjoined to be at peace with one another. We are
to remain from strife and bitterness.
Evangelism. We should be diligent in
evangelism. We should look upon the delay of the Lord’s return as a
matter of salvation (2 Peter 3:15). Witnessing to sinful men
regarding salvation through Jesus Christ is important.
Loyalty to God’s truth. We are not to be
carried away by the error of wicked men. Paul writes to Timothy and
charges him to be loyal in keeping the commandments of God without
spot and without reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus
Christ (1 Tim.6: 14-15).
Growth in grace. But grow in the
grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter
3:18). Christian life should never be static, but strive toward
maturity in Christ Jesus.
Doing God’s work. Being busy is
emphasized in the parable of the faithful servant (Matt. 24:25ff).
In the last description of our eternal home (Rev. 22:3) states that
His servants will serve him. We do not know what kind of work
God will have for his people through eternity, but we shall do it
with rejoicing and we are to do his work here in this world in the
same spirit.
