After 586 BC no Jewish king sat on the throne in Jerusalem. Only foreign rulers and kings ruled the land. David's posterity could only last forever by running out into a person who lives forever, and whose kingdom has no end. The seed of David commences with Solomon and closes with the eternal KingJesus Christ. The promise given to David could only attain fulfillment in Christ. Look up these verses: 2 Samuel 7:1216; Matthew 1:120; 2:2; Luke 1:3133, 69; Romans 1:3.
