 PSALM XXIV

A Psalm of David.

The earth is the LORD’S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah." (Psalm 24, KJV)

PSALM 24

The Song of the Ascension

In this Psalm we have the glories
Of the true God, the true Israel,
And the ascent of the true Redeemer.

He is the mighty God of creative
Power, holiness and preeminence.
Whose eye shall look upon his beauty?
Who can stand in innocence ?

Hearts and hands must be pure
Made so only by God’s grace for
The King of glory is coming.
Open wide the heavenly doors!

Who is this King of glory
Strong and mighty in battle,
Who triumphed over sin and death,
The grave and hell? What a battle!

Who rose for our justification,
Ascended on high giving gifts to men
Made us more than conquerors,
And became the Glory of God. Amen!

Fresh from the cross and the tomb,
He who rides through the open gates
Is higher than the heavens above,
And no power shall ever close the gates.

Christ is Lord of men and angels,
Lord of the world, the ascended Savior,
King of kings, Lord of lords,
King of glory, Immanuel.
