 PSALM 75

Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.  (Psalm 75, KJV)

Psalm 75

Our God Reigns

This psalm is a Psalm of faith in God’s
Just rule and judgment. He reigns over
All things. He alone is omnipotent, and
Also omnipresent, always nearer.

The wicked are reminded that God’s
Presence and judgment are inescapable.
The righteous know that God will never
Abandon them even when times are unstable.

“This is my Father’s world, O let me ne’er forget
  That though the wrong seems oft so strong,
           God is the ruler yet.

  This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done;

  Jesus who died shall be satisfied,
           And earth and heav’n be one.”

God’s retribution to the unjust is sure;
 “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” says
 “He is pouring out the vintage where

The grapes of wrath are stored.”

The Psalmist says, God lifts up the Righteous,
But brings down the wicked. The wrath of God
Is pouring out upon those who excel in evil.
And let no one forget there is God.

Pharaoh drowns; Nebchadnezzar is humbled;
Herod writhes in agony; Hitler kills himself in
His bunker; Sadam was removed from power,
His reign destroyed. God’s wrath comes again.
