PSALM 87

His foundation is in the holy mountains. The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah. I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there. And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her. The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah. As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.  (Psalm 87, KJV)

Psalm 87

The City of our God

Socrates, Augustine, the prophets, the
Apostle’s Paul and John and hymn writers
All write in terms of political, or
Christian expressions of the Great City,

The City of peace and brotherhood of all
Man kind “A city which has foundations.”
For two thousand years Jerusalem was
Known as the city of Zion.

In New Testament days, Zion is thought
Of as the Church founded in grace.
Later in John’s writing, “I saw The holy
City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of

Heaven from God prepared as a bride beautifully
dressed for her husband.”

The Prophets foretold, and angels sung
Of what God had declared.

“…that they may know you, the only  true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.”

That you may, “come to Mount Zion, to the
heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God.”

Those who are born again will sing:
“All my fountains are in you.”
 In Psalm
46:4 we read: “A river whose streams make

glad the city of God.”
 In John 4 Jesus said,

“Whosoever drinks the water I give Him
will never thirst,
and…will become in him a
Spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

And the Samaritan woman said,
     “Sir, give me this water.”
