PSALM 122

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is builded as a city that is compact together: Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD. For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good. (Psalm 122, KJV)

Psalm 122

Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

This city, the heart of the Holy Land,
Where Jesus walked, prayed, and was
Crucified, there I wept three different
Times. Sacred holiness moved my soul.

As one of the Ascent Psalms, it begins
With “Let us go (up) to the house of the Lord.”
To worship, to pray, to hear the Word
Must have been a most humbling experience.

Literally, the psalm is about earthly
Jerusalem, but mainly it directs our thinking
Prophetically, to the new Jerusalem of
Which the earthly city is a shattered type.

There was a need for peace, and so today.
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” This city
Has experienced more wars than most,
And no habitation has ever been less peaceful.

We must go up to the New Jerusalem
“Whose architect and builder is God. The city
Does not need the sun or the moon for the glory
Of God is the light and the Lamb is the light.”

“Noting impure will enter, but only those whose
Names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”
And they reign with Him “forever and ever.”
What matters is that we are going there.
