 PSALM XXIII

A Psalm of David.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever." (Psalm 23, KJV)

PSALM XXIII

The Pearl of the Psalms

Like the sun amid the stars,
The richest of constellations,
The fairest flowers in paradise,
And stars the Shepherd of nations.

It charms the suffering, comforts
The poor, sings courage to armies,
Consoles the dying, and gives hope
To all who humbly pleases,

And will sing through generations,
Nor will it fold its wings, we’re told,
Till the last pilgrim is safe
And Father time has grown old.

In the wilderness of life we
Hear the words My God, My God
Why have you forsaken me!
And we trust the Son of God.

Jesus, the Great Shepherd, stoops
To the cross, prepares a dwelling--
The travel stained robes are laid aside--
And we dwell in banqueting.
