PSALM 99

The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people. Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy. The king’s strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob. Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy. Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among them that call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them. He spake unto them in the cloudy pillar: they kept his testimonies, and the ordinance that he gave them. Thou answeredst them, O LORD our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their inventions. Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.  (Psalm 99, KJV)

Psalm 99

Divine Holiness

Remember the Psalmist were men of
Character, righteousness, men of the cloth,
Deeply devoted to writing, and to the
God who is Divinely Holy.

This is the only epithet of God in the Bible
Repeated three times, Holy, Holy, Holy,
Which is of superlative importance for
Only God is holy, majestic in holiness.

“Let them praise your great and awesome name—
He is Holy.”
The name sets Him apart from
His creation. Holiness intrigues us, but
There is fear of being undone by encounter.

When Isaiah encounered God he exclaimed,
Woe is me! I am ruined! … For my eyes have seen the

King, the Lord Almighty.”
Habakkuk said, I heard
and my heart pounded, my lips quivered, decay crept
into my  bones, and my legs trembled.”

Real worship occurs at His footstool for only
On the basis of the shed blood of Jesus Christ
Can we approach the Holy God. Unless you
Have come this way, outer darkness is yours.

Because God is holy, we as Christian must be
Holy. “But just as he who called you is holy, so be

holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because
I am holy’” (1 Peter 1:15).
