Church that Meets in Pablo's House

“I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).

P

ablo had worked for us as a truck driver when we did medical dental evangelism ministry in Honduras. He accepted Christ as his savior and for several years had asked Wil to go to Lepetarique and start a Baptist church. This city was four hours in the opposite direction from where we have been serving.

Before Pablo became a Christian, every time he could break away from his responsibilities, he would slip into the evangelistic services and sit on the back row. He enjoyed listening to Wil preach and Juan Alberto sing.

Wil took Pablo with him to show the Jesus Film in small towns at the city parks and soccer fields. Wil didn’t need help but took Pablo along so he could witness to him.

The Lord honored the witness and Pablo put his trust in Jesus Christ. Wil had the privilege of baptizing Pablo along with other new believers in a river near Danli.

Pablo was baptized in April of 2005.

Pablo’s daughter was also working with Ann as a cook for the teams. Ann witnessed to Zoila and took her to see the Passion of Christ movie as a witness tool. A year later, she watched her father being baptized and asked Wil if he would baptize her. He shared Christ with her and asked Juan Alberto and Noami to spend some time with her to make sure she had placed her faith in Christ.

Zoila was baptized with a group of other believers in Danli in June 2005.

Pablo continued to be burdened for his wife, Maria de Jesus, and their other children. In June 2007 Pablo greeted Wil with a huge smile one day and said, “Don Wil. Maria has become a believer. She went with me to a church retreat and accepted Christ as her savior.”

In June of 2008 I had the privilege of baptizing Maria. During the evangelism workshop, she gave her testimony about how for years she ridiculed Pablo for working with the evangelicals. She detested everything Baptists were doing in medical dental outreach. However, the Holy Spirit was working in her heart and the change in Pablo’s life bore witness. She came under conviction about her own sinful life and her need for a personal relationship with Christ. At a retreat she believed on Christ. She shared the change that has taken place in her life during the past year and her desire to serve Christ.

Maria de Jesus giving her testimony at her baptism in Lepetarique in June 2008.

All of Pablo’s immediate family, including other sons and daughters, has now placed their faith in Christ.

Pablo was working with me in Zapotillo in January 2008 when a Baptist medical dental evangelism team went to Lepetarique. A Baptist pastor from a rural community wanted to start a new ministry in Lepetarique and everyone kept telling him there was a Baptist man in town by the name of Pablo. He asked Maria if it would be possible to have worship services in her home. When Maria shared this his voice was filled with excitement. Pablo has been praying for several years for a Baptist church in Lepetarique.

Pray for the church that meets in Pablo’s home.

what you can do

Partnership missions gives you an opportunity to become personally involved in what God is doing in world missions.

  • Pray daily for the work in Honduras, Nicaragua, and Ecuador.

  • Pastor and Church Leadership Training Ministry in Honduras.

  •  Pray for three evangelism saturation teams to do door-to-door evangelism and rallies at night.

  •  We have prepared one-day Evangelism Workshops for churches in Latin America.  These are patterned after the personal evangelism course we teach pastors and church leaders, but are shorter.  This course has proven to be very practical and effective in personal evangelism. It was first used in Ecuador and Honduras.  The vision for training rural pastors began with this course in mind while serving as a missionary in Honduras.

  • Juan Alberto Herrera Ministry Alberto has faithfully served 18 years as a contract worker with mission teams. We agree with him that it is God’s will for him to serve as a full-time evangelist and pastor.  Juan pastors a Honduran Baptist Convention church in Danli. He is our Director for Pastor and Church Leadership Training in Honduras.

Juan Alberto Herrera is an evangelist and pastor of Alpha and Omega Baptist Church.
