Teaching Evangelism by Doing It

Don Dumas praying with new believers in Christ Jesus, Riobamba, Ecuador.

"After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands . . ." (Revelation 7:9).

Carl, Wil, John and Don led door-to-door evangelism teams in Riobamba, Ecuador August 2011 and 2012.

Wil, Carl, John and Don taught personal evangelism by taking teams from local churches door-to-door witnessing. During the week 174 people put their personal faith in Christ as their Savior.

Members of Genesis Evangelical Church went out sharing Christ with Don, John and Carl.

Don Dumas is a pharmacist who loves sharing Christ with individuals. This is his second trip to Ecuador with Abide in Christ evangelism ministries. Here is his report on sharing Christ door-to-door with members of the Genesis Bilingual Evangelical Church in Riobamba, Ecuador.

The first lady met was digging up a stump. She stopped and listened to the gospel and prayed to receive Christ.

The second person was walking down the street. His wife was a Christian.  He invited Jesus into his heart.

Then we met Jesus and Jonathan. They were each 16 years old.  They were both from Catholic back grounds. Jonathan was an altar boy in the Catholic Church.  They both prayed and asked the Lord Jesus Christ to forgive their sins and be their savior.

We shared the gospel with Kevin, Anthony and Francisco. My translator Evelyn shared with them using the salvation bracelet, and they each responded to the gospel call.

We went back to the church.  And Kleber came walking by this church.  He went to church Sunday, but he wanted to know how to get to heaven.  We shared the gospel with him and Jesus saved him.  He said that he would be here at the Genesis church Sunday at 9 am.

We shared Christ with a 16 year old.  She prayed and asked Jesus to forgive her sins and to come into her heart and give her the gift of eternal life.

There was a young woman and a young man, Patricia and Angel, working at a wood shop. They both listened to the gospel and prayed to receive Christ.

Evelyn pictured sharing Christ using salvation bracelet.

We met two ladies, Sara and Mariana walking down the street. We asked if we could share the love of God with them.  They stopped and listened to the gospel presentation and they asked Christ to come into their hearts and forgive their sin.

We went into a store and ask if we could talk to the person behind the counter. Her name was Rocio.  She listened in between customers to the message of the gospel and she prayed to receive Christ. We had 14 salvations today God is working here in this place. Jesus is still knocking at the hearts of the people in this community.  There is still great work here to be done.  I challenge you to begin to share your faith.  Partner with Jesus as He knocks at the door of the hearts of the lost in this neighborhood and as He seeks an eternal relationship with them. We saw 174 people come to Christ this week.

The Genesis Bilingual Evangelical Church is living up to its name because as a result of this week of evangelism they began Spanish services on Sunday morning.

The Genesis Bilingual Evangelical Church in Riobamba, Ecuador continues to grow. Abide in Christ has been involved in this outreach over the last three years teaching personal evangelism, Bible studies and Key Word Bible Doctrines. As a result of this week of personal evangelism the church began Spanish worship services. It now has services in Quecha and Spanish languages.

San Bernardo Evangelical Church "Kichwa Belen" baptized over 155 new believers one Sunday in 1971.

Missionary Henry Klausen and Manuel Naula showed gospel films in the community of San Bernardo. Out of the fires of persecution people made decisions putting their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior. Police could do little against a drunken fiesta mob of 700. A year later believers in San Bernardo asked the GMU missionaries to conduct a baptism service for them. Manuel Naula went a few days earlier and to interview the baptism candidates and prepare them for baptism. Excitedly he told Henry, "Remember how we thought that fifty people raised their hands? There are 155 people ready to be baptized and most of them date their decision back to that night we showed the film." For an excellent history of the early days of Quichua mission work I highly recommend New Song in the Andes by John Maust published by William Carey Library, Pasadena, California.

It is always a joy to meet the first generation Quichua Christians. This elderly couple came to Christ in the early 1960's and have been serving Him ever since. Two of their sons are pastors.

what you can do

Partnership missions give you an opportunity to become personally involved in what God is doing in world missions. Pray daily for the work in Honduras. Give financially.  We are a faith mission and are dependent upon your financial gifts. Please pray about becoming involved in the support of our mission. “As long as the Lord provides I will give … $25  $50  $100 $___ a month.” Current Needs:

q     Pastor and Church Leadership Training Ministry in Ecuador.  Each trip costs approximately $3,000 and covers airplane tickets, room and board, rent for truck, gas, local workers, textbooks and food for students.

q     Pray for evangelism saturation teams to do door-to-door evangelism and rallies at night.

q     Pray for scholarships for Peniel Seminary students in Riobamba, Ecuador.

q     Pray for Evangelism Workshops with Nicaragua Baptist pastors.

q     Pray for wisdom to know where the Lord is leading to conduct evangelism workshops, and where to focus teaching ministry. We have been asked to return every three months and teach Ecuador pastors.

q     We are presenting one-day, three-day weekend, and one week Evangelism Workshops for pastors and church leaders in churches in Latin America.
