Divine Encounter in Guayaquil
Wil translating for
Jerry Starnes preaching on resurrection of Jesus Christ in a Quichua Church
in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
"Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with joyful
shouting; Then they said among the nations, 'The LORD has done great
things for them.' The LORD has done great thing for us; We are glad. . .
. Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting" (Psalm
126:2-5).
Christ is alive! Jesus Christ is alive!
No one expected Him to be alive on that first
Easter morning.
That one event changed the entire world. No
other religion has a risen Savior.
It is the greatest message in the entire world.
When you read through the opening chapters of Acts, the enemies of the
Gospel could not shut the apostles up. They refused to stop preaching
the cross and the resurrection of Christ.
I recently translated for Jerry Starnes as
he preached his sermon on 1 Corinthians 15 several times. I enjoyed
translating as I never have before. The sense of God's presence and
power in each of the services was powerful. The simple verse by verse
presentation was exceptionally well done.
The power of the resurrection became so evident
as we began a conversation with a couple who owned a small garage store
at their house in Guayaquil, Ecuador. It very hot, so we bought
ice-cream bars on the stick from them. I guided the conversation to their
relationship with Jesus Christ. The lady was a Catholic, and her husband
an evangelical Christian. At first she didn't want anything to do with
us. I turned to Jerry and nodded for him to begin sharing the plan of
salvation. As he took them down the plan of salvation along the Roman
Road, the lady began to warm up and show interest. Her husband quoted the
scriptures Jerry was sharing. In the past they did not discuss the Bible
together. The Spirit of God was encouraging the husband along, and she
was coming powerfully under conviction. At the same time their love for
one another was evident and beautiful. Jerry asked the woman, "Would you
like to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior right now?" The radiant
instant smile across her face was like a thousand watt light. "Yes!" was
the reply. He husband jumped up from where he was sitting and grabbed
her up in his arms in a warm embrace. I have never seen two people so
happy. I led her in a prayer to receive Christ. Jerry gave them counsel
to encourage her new faith in Christ. Before leaving we encouraged them
to read their Bible together beginning with Romans. They
enthusiastically said yes, and the lady said they never have in the past
because of their religious differences. Now they are truly one in
Christ.
City of Totogalpa, Ecuador where Abide in Christ conducts evangelism
workshops for evangelical Quichua churches.
In these rugged Andean mountains there is a
hunger for the Good News of Jesus Christ. Everywhere the Chimborazo
Quechua speaking believers have gone over the last sixty years they have
started churches. In Guayaquil there are 105 Quichua churches. Some are
small home churches while others are much larger with hundreds of
members. Abide in Christ is committed to providing personal
evangelism training to these Quichua evangelical churches.

On Easter Sunday I preached on John 20 at the
Christian Evangelical Center "Camino a Damasco" in Gatazo. That
night I preached at the Genesis Bilingual Church in Riobamba. During the
week I presented doctrinal studies on salvation, justification by faith
and eternal security in these mountain churches in Chimborazo Province and
Peniel Theological Seminary in Riobamba.

Quichua evangelical church Nuevo Amanecer in Riobamba, Ecuador.
The Nueva Amanecer Evangelical Church has 200
active members composed of engineers, lawyers, school teachers, medical
doctors, business men, etc. The church has its own home for the
elderly, scholarly Bible classes, special conferences on Christian
discipleship and evangelism outreach. I gave a presentation on eternal
security to a packed house of intense listeners. Two years ago I
presented a three day evangelism conference. At Cocan I gave a two day
conference on salvation and justification by faith to a group of Quichua
women. There is a desire to grow spiritually.
