Quichua Pastor's Conference on Sound Doctrine
Quichua
National Pastor's Conference Otavalo, Ecuador
"In pointing out these things to the brethren, you will be a good
servant of Christ Jesus, constantly nourished on the words of the
faith and of the sound doctrine which you have been following" (1
Timothy 4:6).
The Quichua National Pastor's Conference of the Union Misionera
Evangelica was held in Otavalo, Ecuador, in December 2013.
Welcome to Otavalo, Ecuador.
The theme of this year's pastor's conference was "How to Maintain Sound
Doctrine in the Local Church."
I gave eight presentations on the theme of sound doctrine to over 400
Quichua pastors who had come from all parts of the country. My daughters
Amy and Paula observed that the pastors were all taking notes furiously.
The response and attentiveness was most gratifying.
Everywhere I go there is a hunger for Biblical truth and sound
doctrine. During the past four years I have been asked to teach courses
on Bible doctrine, and my book on Key Word Bible Doctrines has been
well received. The Quichua churches have been assaulted by Jehovah's
False Witnesses, Mormons, Prosperity Gospel, and an assortment of other
cults.
Wil gave eight presentations on sound doctrine to 400 pastors in
Otavalo.

I also taught a 40 hour course on "Discipleship" at a seminary
in Guayaquil the week before the pastor's conference. This was a follow-up on the course on "Salvation" that
I taught earlier in the year.

"Discipleship" course.
Our
colleagues Alejandro Guacho and Damaso Francisco have started a new
work at Chivios in Sucua. This is a jungle community about six hours
from Riobamba. They go to Chivios twice a month and spend four days
witnessing and teaching. They go door to door witnessing and
inviting people to come to the children and youth Bible studies. At
the worship service they alternate preaching on the Life of Christ
in Matthew. They are also using a video drama that goes through the
Life of Christ in Matthew verse by verse. A new believer, Jose and
his wife have opened their home as a meeting place. Seventy children
and 40 adults are coming to these services.

Damaso and Alejandro are part of
Abide in Christ team in Ecuador.
Damaso is a
professor at Peniel Theological Seminary in Riobamba, and Alejandro
is a student in his final year of study. Alejandro works with me and
is the pastor of Genesis Bilingual Evangelical Church in Riobamba.
He team teaches with me the evangelism workshops in churches. He is
well qualified to teach the course in Quichua churches.
I finished
the week preaching on evangelism at a Quichua church in Otavalo. One
of the most important themes that is repeatedly asked for is the
doctrine of eternal security.

Pray for
wisdom as we seek the Lord's direction during the coming year. I
have been asked to give the presentations on sound doctrine at
Peniel Seminary, another national pastor's conference, and in
Quichua churches,
At the close of the pastor's
conference the leaders of the Quichua association pleaded with
tears, "Don Wil, please keep coming back as long as you are able."
As long as I have health and
the Lord provides I will serve Him until He calls me home.
Paula and Amy with our Ecuador Abide in Christ team
leaders, Alberto and Nancy Copa and Alejandro Guacho.
Our daughters Amy and Paula returned to Ecuador after 20 years away.
Our three daughters Jane, Paula and Amy grew up in Ecuador.
Jane and her husband Lee have made several trips with me to Ecuador, and
they serve on the board of Abide in Christ.
