My Chosen Instruments

Peniel Theological Seminary students in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Seminary students taking final exam on Poetic Books of Old Testament in Guayaquil, Ecuador

Speaking of Saul, the Lord said to Ananias, "Saul is My chosen instrument to take My message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel" (Acts 9:15). God is still calling His chosen instruments and fills them with a burning passion to win a world to Christ.

God's chosen instruments are found all over the highlands of Ecuador.

There is a specific personal call of God to the gospel ministry. It is a clear clarion call. There comes that moment in the life of the God called man who knows beyond a shadow of doubt that God has laid His hand upon him and chosen Him for a specific task that no one else can fulfill.

I have had the privilege over the last five years of watching a seminary for Quichua pastors and church leaders grow from thirteen to over a hundred and seventy. I have been given the opportunity to teach classes, give special presentations to the Saturday students, speak at graduation, and serve as the international coordinator for the seminary.

I have watched God lay His hand on young Quichua men and put in them a burning passion in their hearts to do the will of God. They have followed the leading of the Holy Spirit with a growing commitment to that calling.

Some of Saturday students at Peniel Seminary in Riobamba, Ecuador under the direction of Alberto Copa.

One of those students is Alejandro who graduated last year. I have observed him and his family with keen interest over the past five years. He has faithfully served Christ over the past twenty years. He studied at the Colta Bible Institute, and in time wanted more Bible education and enrolled in Peniel Theological Seminary. He now serves on the Board of Directors of the seminary, pastors a church that began in his home several years ago. He also has a passion to see a Shuar church in the jungle revitalized. He is God's chosen instrument.

Jose Guznay is another chosen instrument who teaches pastoral ministries at Peniel. He and his wife and a daughter graduated from the Hebron Theological Seminary in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. His daughter Gloria teaches New Testament Greek and works with youth in Guayaquil. Jose pastors a Quichua church in the eastern jungle of Ecuador. There is a large jungle Quechua speaking church in Sarayacu or the modern name of Carlos Arosemena.

Wil taught an evangelism workshop three years ago at a Quichua bilingual church in Carlos Arosemena also known in the area by Quichuas as Sarayacu. He returned to speak on the doctrine of salvation at a Bible conference in the church. This week long conference drew God's chosen leaders from neighboring communities.
